ONE DAY IN LISBON
Discover the wonderful Lisbon, the City of Seven Hills that inspires poets and songs
About the tour
Lisbon, the capital of our country and the most populous city in the country, is the seventh most visited city in southern Europe. It is considered the 4th most beautiful city in Europe by ""Urban City Guides"".
On this tour we will show you the best of this beautiful city, and it's not just about Belém pastries.
We will start the day exploring the old neighbourhood of Alfama, the oldest and one of the most typical neighborhoods in the city of Lisbon, its name derives from the Arabic al-hamma, which means baths or fountains, we stop here so you can stroll through the narrow streets and admire its viewpoints, we also stop at one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the city, the Senhora do Monte viewpoint.
We cross the center of Lisbon, and you can now see Augusta Street, Comercio Square, also known as Terreiro do Paço, we head towards the Chiado neighborhood passing by the ruins of the Carmo Convent, which was once the main Gothic church of the capital, remains today in ruins due to the earthquake of 1755, having not been rebuilt. It constitutes one of the main testimonies of the catastrophe still visible in the city.
15 minutes from the center of Lisbon is the neighborhood of Belém, where you will find the traditional Belem pastry shop, and very close to this is the Jerónimos Monastery, the culmination of Manueline architecture, which in 1983 was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, together with with the Belém Tower. In 2007 it was chosen as one of the seven wonders of Portugal. The Belém Tower is an architectural icon of the reign of King Manuel I, in a synthesis between the tower of medieval traditions and the modern bastion, where pieces of artillery were exposed.
A few meters ahead we find another monument built in 1940, on the occasion of the Exhibition of the Portuguese World, the Monument of the Discoveries, also on the Tajus riverside, to honor the historical figures involved in the Portuguese Discoveries, which took place between 1415 and 1543.
